You drive your own car, there is space to make mistakes safely, and nobody expects you to be any good on day one. No. Most people start in a standard rear-wheel-drive car, and plenty of first drift days happen in something cheap and unmodified. A limited-slip differential makes it far easier to learn, but it is not a requirement to book a day. What matters more is that the car is mechanically sound and you accept it will wear tyres.
